Greetings, whoever-reads-this!
The picture below is one of my daily routines. The NY Times Spelling Bee. Today was a monster, with 70 words. I write down the two-letter hints, and just whittle it down from there. The different columns show my progress. And the star indicates when I hit Genius. That means you got most of the words. I always try for Queen Bee, which is every last word. Might get it this time, might not.
But this is a big part of my morning. I also do Wordle, and am signed up with Lumosity, so I get daily games to play. This stuff is based in neuroscience, and exercises different cognitive functions such as Memory, Problem-Solving, Speed, Math, Language.. They're good for your noodle. At least that's what I tell myself.
This activated a memory. Back in my married days, which was roughly 1988-1994, the wife had a job for awhile at a Liquor Store, specifically working the Lotto Booth. She ended up bringing the job home with her. No, not the booze, but the daily lottery game.
My ex had a very nimble mind, and would come up with all these elaborate number schemes, which were jotted down on various scraps of paper. I called them her Frenzied Computations. Sometimes, the stars would align and she'd get a match. More often than not, though, she was a number off here or there. But the misalignments were also part of the game.
Looking at my own frenzied scribblings made me think back a couple decades here. As I remember, that was also a pretty good patch in the relationship. A time of relative peace.
It would be nice if this were a time of relative peace. As coping mechanisms go, though, the frenzied computations seem to help, at least for the moment.
And that's all I've got for now. Got a few more words to find. Maybe even a guitar to play. Thanks as ever for stopping in and reading. Much love to you! More later.
