Friday

Good morning! It's about 9:30 on this variable Friday. Another sun n' clouds combo out there. I have a love/hate thing going with cheezy phrases like sun n'clouds combo. The grammarian in me winces, and my more roguish side revels in their very cheeziness. Thank goodness the rogue usually wins. Life is more interesting with him around.

Music news. And yes, today I have some. Got an email last night from Sheila Walk, of the Splfd Arts Council, for the Artist-on-the-Plaza series. It's not official yet, but I have August 31st from noon to one. Yes, an actual gig!

I'd imagine Robbie's will follow suit. There will probably be another email coming about available dates for the Uptown Friday Night series. I was slated to play last May, so I do have a spot coming. I'm sure the dates will fill up very quickly, just like this last roundup. But I hope to be back there some damn time.

Robbie's will be a trio gig. I don't have a regular group these days, but Rob Killam and Dave Pruitt have been my bassist and drummer on a few occasions, and were scheduled to play this one with me. Rob and I have played many gigs together over the years, and in all kinds of combinations.

You can tell you've worked a lot with someone when you start to  collect anecdotes about them. I once overheard Rob telling my brother that I had to import musicians from Jacksonville- his stomping grounds- because no one in Springfield would work with me. He has yet to top that one..

So that's my news, musical and otherwise. Robbie's and the Old Capitol Plaza are on the horizon. Something to practice for, especially the Plaza gig which will be just me up there. I don't know that solo guitar is my forte- even in this little burg of 117,000 people, there are at least three guitarists I'd rather hear than me. But it's always a nice challenge.

Okay then. Thanks as ever for stopping in and reading. I do appreciate it! Happy Friday to you. For now, ich bin outa here. More later. PS Today's pic was taken a few weeks ago at the home of some friends of mine.  It was my first un-masked social occasion in quite some time. I was helping my friend with some of his home-recording stuff. Mostly we just hung out and discussed out crazy world here in the 21st century... PPS Today's tune is called As Time Draws Near.  It's on an album of mine called Uncharted Waters. Some of my more unusual stuff..
