Good morning! It's just shy of ten on this bleak first day of January. Just hoping the power holds out. Got extra layers I can put on just in case, but no kerosene heater or fireplace here. My brother has both, and my neighbors have a kerosene heater much like his, so 'm not going to freeze. Still, I'd like to see the new year in from here. Fingers crossed as we head forward...
Music news. I have a brand new release, which just went 'live' today. It's called Indian Summer. Some of my smoother stuff, but still lots of guitar and keyboard work. Basically a "feel good" album, designed to help take the edge off the insane year we're emerging from. There are more keyboard solos in this new one, as my keyboard chops have gotten better with all this work. So far it's up on Spotify. I put up a link on Facebook. just this morning.
And I have an upcoming release. Unlike the projects of this past year, this one actually has other people playing on it! And if that weren't enough, it has recognizable tunes! I stumbled onto some old recordings of a quartet I had going for about five years in there- one at Robbie's downtown and the other at Charlie's Club in the basement of Andiamo's.
This up-and-comer will be a bit more expensive. Gotta pay the licensing fees for all those tunes I didn't write, for one thing. Also there' s the matter of packaging. This new one really needs to be a CD, so there's cover art and liner notes I'll have to tend to. But it should sell better. And it's also something I wanted to do for the guys who have worked with me over the years. A momento of our time making music together. My band became our band, just like the trio that followed.
So that's what I'm up to as we get into this new year. The first thing I want to re-claim is some sort of a social life. Once that's in place, we'll see about playing someplace. In the meantime, I'll continue to share my music with you here on the site or on FB. Actually, I'm most concerned with just getting through today, weather and all.
