Happy New Year!

Happy new year! It's currently 9:45 and 34 degrees on this first day of January. In bed just after one, and up at 9:18. Hibernation begins.

Music news. Well it would seem I have a job this coming Friday. The projected high temperature yesterday was 6 degrees. Today it's 14. Whatever we end up with is probably going to be a cold day. I was really trying to avoid these first couple weeks of January, and here I am smackdab in the middle of it.

So my job is at Boone's, 5:30 to 7:30, with Ocean State.  I played with them for about two and a half years, and still help out here and there. Still glad to do that, but I did protest at first, due to the weather. I like to think that's my only bugaboo as far as working.

I suppose we've all got something that's anathema to us. Buddy Rogers doesn't like to play outdoors, because the music flies every which way. I don't like to go out into the cold. And I don't like playing in the midst of a noisy crowd. Well, two bugaboos...

But I still love making music. Either by myself or with other folks. As I get older and crabbier, the Music Lab seems to work better. It's more in line with what I went to school for. There are things you can do in the studio that you could never do in a live situation. Plus, it's a lot more peaceful.

Still, playing live with other people has an interaction to it--by virtue of the fact that multiple folks are involved--that you can never get in the studio. Ideally, you make magic as well as music. .So the guitar will always figure in there someplace..

So here we go into the new year. I'm also playing on the 20th of this month, at the 3sixteen Wine Bar in Chatham, with José Gobbo. And the next thing I have on the books isn't until May 6th. Back at Boone's, this time with my own trio.

Wow. Actual news. What a concept. Thanks as ever for stopping in and reading. I do appreciate it! For now,  je suis outa here. More later. PS One of my weirdo pieces for today. It's called Blanche and her Cheezball Friends. Basically three different voices interacting.
