Today, and January 2nd of every year, is World Introvert Day. Did you know that? I sure didn't. But it does make sense. The day after New Year's Day is our day to recharge those batteries from all the draining social interactions of the Season.
Not that we don't enjoy the socializing. Speaking as a representative introvert. I know I do. But after awhile( and here I know I'm speaking for the group), I start to get overloaded. That weird buzz that comes over you when you're aurally maxxed out. Red-lining on all the commotion. Time to get home and let your levels sink back to where they were before you got so worked up.
Music news. I've been on a Western Swing kick these past couple days. Just stumbled onto something on YouTube, a website devoted to backing tracks in this style, and in a fairly wide range of tempos. What I already do on guitar seems to fit, though I do need to keep things more mainstream harmonically. In playing straight-ahead jazz, I often like to slip in and out of the tonality, but with this style the alterations just sound weird. So I keep to the straight and narrow there.
I'm sure I'll end up posting something or other on the YouTube page. It reminds me of my time playing R & B in an organ trio. I had to adapt my style in much the same way, leaving off some of the extensions I liked playing.
Lots of fun doing the R & B thing. Everything but Margaritaville was a pleasure to play, whether or not it lent itself to improvisation on my part. The keyboard player in this group had some jazz harmonies going, so I could play some jazz when the song warranted it.
So far, the new year is going along just fine. As far as birthdays, another milestone year. In just seven months, I'll be 70 years old. A septuagenarian. Basically pretty healthy for this advanced age. I plan on making more music in this coming year and sharing it with you guys. Nothing new.
