Incipient Coolness

Greetings, whoever-reads-this! This is a blog I started yesterday. It was 15 degrees outside.

The coldest place I know of is Yakutsk, Russia- where it gets down to 75 degrees below zero. I watched a video about Yakutsk. Many layers of clothing are required for the people, and several layers of reinforcement for the buildings they live in.

Not a place for someone who considers 15 degrees above zero too cold to handle. Our temperature today, at the moment, is around 30. Above. Then it's supposed to warm back up to the 40s.  That's more my speed..

Though I did experience that kind of cold once in my life.  One of my gigs with Cicero Slim and WWIII. The year would have been 1981 or 82. Rock Island, Illinois. It was supposed to have been 40 below, with a wind chill factor of roughly double that figure. Your skin was instantly numb.

That was some intense shit. Normally, Rock Island was a nice place to play. Hypothermia wasn't usually a major concern.

We also got stuck in St Louis, but more due to the snow than any more epic temperatures. My stint with that band did not provide the social amenities I might've liked, but it did give me a few stories. I've been stranded in some of the best places…

Music news. I'm back in the saddle, as far as making music videos. It feels great being back at it, and all. I'm once again able to play as long as I want without the camera shutting off. The creative process is uninterrupted. So my videos are all consummated, as far as getting my stuff outa me.

Don't worry, I'm not going to get any more graphic than that.

But at least I'm workin' it. Mastery of one's instrument seems like it never ends. At least not for me. Still doing the Castor Oil scales n' arpeggios with the metronome. Trying to build more control, That's a tough one!

What keeps me going is partly the desire to finish what I started, but mainly the fact that-work or not- it's still a helluva lot of fun!

Thanks as ever for stopping in and reading this mess. Much love. More later.

ps today's tune is called As Time Draws Near, and is from this album:
