Friday the 13th

Good morning! It's nine-twenty on this Friday the 13th. The quintessential Unlucky Day. Its origin goes back to the Last Supper, that 13th guest. I did find one amusing bit of information though:

The Thirteen Club

In the late-19th century, a New Yorker named Captain William Fowler (1827-1897) sought to remove the enduring stigma surrounding the number 13—and particularly the unwritten rule about not having 13 guests at a dinner table—by founding an exclusive society called the Thirteen Club.

The group dined regularly on the 13th day of the month in room 13 of the Knickerbocker Cottage, a popular watering hole Fowler owned from 1863 to 1883. Before sitting down for a 13-course dinner, members would pass beneath a ladder and a banner reading “Morituri te Salutamus,” Latin for “Those of us who are about to die salute you.”

Okay, Music news. I'm back on what I think is gonna be another creative binge. A couple new pieces were created in the past couple days, and I think today will follow suit. So, more music to share down the road. The keyboard is figuring in more and more as a solo voice. I've even got my favorite patch as far as the timbre. Nice to have two soloists, even if both of them are just me.

Right now, I'm kinda working on three things at once. One is a straight-ahead jazz thing not unlike the one I just released, for which I already have a few cuts. Another is a solo guitar project I've been sitting on for the longest time. Got all the tunes picked out and everything, just need to get it in motion. And last, another fusion/smooth/eclectic - for which I have most of the tunes ready.

Near-Miracle on 33rd Street  is still the top story. That's my newest CD. All jazz, all original- though some of the tunes are based on jazz standards. You can listen to any of the selections in its entirety, and purchase individual cuts as well as the whole album. As they used to say(and probably still say)outside the strip clubs in Baltimore, "don't cost nothin' to check it out". (I was a college kid in Baltimore for three years, and made a few trips downtown..)

Well that's all the stuff I'm up to at the moment. Like the rest of you, trying to make the best out of Our Current Situation. Continuing to enjoy people's music posts on Facebook, from their garages or porches or music rooms. January 20 of next year will get here as scheduled. Sure as hell a bumpy ride though...

Okay! Thanks as ever for stopping in and reading. Happy Friday the 13th to you! For now, I'm outa here. More later.   PS Today's pic was taken downtown on the Square, year unknown. I was doing an hour of solo guitar for the Artist on the Plaza series. Another gig I wouldn't mind reviving.
