Aftermath

We just went through a lollapalooza of a storm. .Technically, I've just learned, *a Derecho, which is another name for a straight-line Windstorm(as opposed to rotary), was what hit us. Part of my roof- my new roof-- got pulled up by the wind and part of if fell to the ground. The damage is visible just to the right of this picture. I didn't feel like taking a picture of it. There's enough horror in the world already.. Fortunately, the critical parts of my old roof were still covered, thus preventing any leakage.

The bad news is that the guys will have to come back and put the roof back in place. They'll probably be grateful for the work, and are pretty entertaining to have around, so it's not really awful news. Just one step forward, and one step back. Or maybe a step and a half.

I lost power from 12:30 on Thursday to about 1:30 today. 25 hours. My neighbor immediately put himself in Easy Mode: nothing we can do about it, so just sit back and wait. Nice to be able to just switch gears like that. I was able to get to Easy Mode myself, but not before a lot of fidgeting. I have to go through several Modes before I get to Easy..

But I've got my power-outage tools: my trusty candles and flashlight. And once I finally resigned myself to the fact that there was nothing I could do about it, everything was cool.  Not sure how many more nights I could've done it--as many as I had to, I guess…

Some folks here in town weren't at all affected by the storm, except maybe to lose their internet connection. And on the other end of things, there are people still waiting to get  their power restored as we head into another evening.  And with much more damage done to their homes.

So this town will be a mess for awhile. Having been without power for 25 hours, I had to replace the contents of my refrigerator, which involved a trip down a busy street with blinking stoplights at damn near every intersection. And if you take the quieter streets, you're dodging tree limbs every which way.

Now having adequate lighting and cooling in the house, I can concentrate on other things. The nice thing about a truly shitty day, or days, is that it feels so good when it's over. So I'm enjoying the various restorations going on here. That said, I'm sure to see what kind of trouble I can make with the guitar in these next couple of days. And I always share what's worth sharing. Later.

*I've got this one friend on Facebook who knows almost more than you'd want to hear about a variety of subjects. Not playing Meteorologist here, just sharing.
