Friday

Good morning! 9:53 and 74 degrees. First cup of coffee. A beautiful day out there. An uncharacteristically terse blog, at least so far.

Music News. This coming Sunday, I'll be playing with Ocean State at All About Wine. 3 to 6. Jazz standards and Latin. The last gig I played was a trio thing at Boone's on May 8th. We were planning on getting together after that, but it just didn't happen. The heat had a lot to do with it. So it's been awhile since I've played music with other people. I need this.

I'm not looking for work at this point, at least not as a sideman. These days, gigs seem to work best in small doses. All the novelty is still there, The fun. And it's always like Old Home Week, working with people you haven't seen in awhile.

If the dosage increases though, it starts to feel like work. This happened in April, when one gig turned into four. I found myself waiting for it all to be over with. Not the mentality I want to have when playing music.

So I'm looking forward to Sunday. Again, an Old Home Week situation, with folks I haven't seen or worked with in a good while.  And it will probably tide me over for awhile, as far as all the noise and hubbub. Small doses...

Otherwise, just continuing to work here in the Lab. Writing new tunes and recording them. That's actually my bread and butter as a musician, at least here at the ripe old age of 68. After a day of tunesmithing here in the Lab, I'm pleasantly spent. That tells me I'm on the right track.

But I still need to get out of my room every so often, lest I start turning into Jack Torrance. So the occasional gig will still happen.

Anyway! That's what I've got for you today in the way of news. Thanks as ever for stopping in and reading. Happy Friday to you, especially if you've worked all week. For now, ich bin outa this place. More later.
