Life Stuff

Greetings, whoever-reads-this! A cloudy, soul-crushing day out there. One I'm working on improving from here in the Music Lab. If we can't have a nice day out there, we can at least try for one in here. Mind over matter. We'll see..

Music News. I'm happy to be getting a number of new subscribers on my YouTube page, It's also cool hearing from them. People who listen to and enjoy my stuff are never taken for granted. They help keep me going, keep me in the game.

I don't do nearly as many gigs as I did when I first retired. Back in 2013, I was doing 6 to 10 every month. Here in 2023, It's dwindled to a couple around the beginning of every year. The Sam Crain Trio sort of ground to a halt in 2016 or so, and I haven't been able to put together another band. Several attempts, but no soap.

Plus, the venues have gotten noisier. Maybe that's just advancing age creeping in there. I still love to play, of course, and enjoy seeing familiar faces, but hate the crowd noise…

So I try and make up for that with more posts on the YouTube page. And my various home recording projects. Still in there.

Health news. I have occasional issues with my left ear. It clogs up on me every now and again. Ended up spending about three hours at Priority Care yesterday. Two and a half waiting and about half an hour having my ears flushed out. My left ear is now clean as a whistle. The Nurse Practitioner's  words.

They nicked the right ear, the one that never gives me a problem, but not the end of the world. It smarted pretty good for a minute, but hasn't given me any further trouble. Got some drops to put in it for the next ten days, to take care of any possible infection. (Isn't this just fascinating?!)

And I was advised to make this an annual event from here on in. I figure it's analogous to having your teeth cleaned at the Dentist's, where regular appointments(as well as brushing and all that)make the experience less arduous. Figuring also that eventually, I'll have regular check-ups for every part of my body. From Podiatry to Neurology..

Anyway. That's my news for now. Thanks as ever for stopping in and wading through it. Hey, the sun's out! At least for now. PS today's pic was taken at The Alamo, back in 2014 or so. Mark McKnight on drums, Rob Killam on bass. Good time
