Good morning! 9:05 and 78 degrees are our current stats. A beautiful day out there. My weather page says Thunderstorms, but let's hope we got it all yesterday.
Music news. Yesterday was the first gig I'd done since the beginning of May.
I got a text message earlier that day that we were to be playing in a tent. That, and the fact that it was 88 degrees already, helped me pick out what to wear. Those sillyass shorts were the only thing I had that wasn't in the clothes hamper.
The picture of me playing in those shorts embarrassed me at first, but I decided instead to just embrace it. I'm too old to give a damn what anybody else thinks anyway..
I had a great time socializing with a few folks. There were a few people there with whom I'd gone to High School and even Junior High. One of these friends is a fellow picker, and we made some plans to get together to do some playing.
Ocean State is a band I played in for a number of years. I made an amicable split a few years back, to work more on my own stuff, but am usually available to sub. These days I'm more of an Adjunct Member. Played with them in January and April and now August.
So I'll be back again, either with them or with my own group. After an event like yesterday, with all the socializing and whatnot, I'm always drained.. Playing out is an extroverted thing, in nature. My personality is more on the introverted and quirky side, which doesn't fare well with a lot of stimuli. I get over-loaded.
Recharging these introvert batteries today. This is why I just play gigs here and there. Gotta recover from them..
In other music news, still working away here in the Lab. At least half of my DNA as a musician is as a composer. That's what I went to school for. Working on my stuff here in the cloistered confines of the Music Lab does not drain me. I feel pleasantly spent, but energized.
But after awhile, I get to missing other people. The fellowship of making music together. This gets me back out of the house, at least for the one engagement.
