Saturday

Greetings, whoever-reads-this! Looks like we've got another scorcher on the way. It's just shy of eleven, and the temperature is already 89 degrees. My music room is the only room in the house that doesn't have central air. A funky window unit and a box fan are my weapons against the heat. Definitely a suffering artiste in here…

My new quadrapeds, Dmitri and Svetlana, are much more interactive than my previous pets. Cindy would sit in the chair next to me, while Svetlana and her brother just park themselves right on the desk. Sometimes they get into one of their famous fights from here, and something on the computer follows them. I either lose the sound or the picture.

Pets are great. They provide wonderful company, and also remind you to roll with the punches. Having the computer go belly-up used to be more upsetting, but I'm learning to take life's vicissitudes with a grain of salt. Life is a lot easier this way..

Music news. My only album for this year(so far, anyway), Hanging On, is actually getting some play! Went from .05 to 1.46 to 3.83 in streams. I know that's chicken feed, but I'm more concerned with the fact that people listened to it. Apple Music seems to be one of the better companies out there. They're all bandits, but Apple is more efficient as far as getting results.

I just posted a tune on my YouTube page. It's called Woody n' You. Written by Dizzy Gillespie as an homage to bandleader Woody Herman. I don't know if the band is still going, but I heard from a fairly reliable source that they had a tune in their book called Just My Fuckin' Luck. Supposed to be a really nice tune. I would love to request it if I ever see them..

I never got to see Jimi Hendrix, but I was able to catch most of the great Big Bands: Count Basie, Duke Ellington(with Cat Anderson on trumpet, playing amazing high notes), Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, and The Thad Jones/Mel Lewis band. The St Nicholas Hotel, here in Spfld, used to host an event called the Eight o'Clock Dance Club, which brought in all these acts.

And that's my news, or at least what passes for it. Thanks as ever for stopping in and reading. Happy Saturday to you! For now, ich bin outa here. More later.

PS today's musical offering is a tune of mine called A Walk Through Astral Candyland. It's from an album I made called Garden of Sonic Delights. Some of my weirder stuff…
