Thursday

Good morning! 9:52 and a balmy 82 degrees are our current stats. This has been a rough couple of days here in the Lab,  having only a funky window unit and a fan for protection against the elements. The only room in the house without Central Air. Cooler than outside, but not by much.

The downstairs here at casa de Sam is always fine,  but I have a hell of a time with my upstairs. Especially the room I spend the most time in. Still getting in some time on the guitar, but it's tougher. Might just have to get up off some money and get myself another air-conditioner. The one I have has lived a long and mostly useful life, but it's ready to be put out to pasture..

So those are the domestic headlines, now on to Music News. I have a few things I've taped over the past couple days. At least one of them is heading YouTube-ward.. In the direction of my YouTube page. On a couple of them, I have my shirt open--remember, it was very hot--and it looks like I'm trying to go all Tom Jones on you with the chest hair, such as it is. More comfort than machismo..

Back in 1985, I actually worked with a Tom Jones Impersonator. I was on the road from December of '84 until March of '86, and one leg of our journey was playing in Canada during July of '85. Two cities in Alberta: Calgary and Edmonton.

I'm pretty sure he worked with us in Calgary, during the Calgary Stampede, an annual festival. I saw Muhammed Ali in the parade, and have a pic somewhere. The tune we did with the Tom Jones guy was 'Please, love me tonight". He was a nice guy. We all liked him. Gotta say though, he was bound and determined to get lucky. On the last night of the show, near the end of his tune, we all shouted, 'please, love him tonight!'

And I'm also pretty sure he got a kick out of it. Hope it worked for him.. Some Calgary trivia: it was used in Superman III, to represent Metropolis. That would've been around the time I was there.

Well I guess that's my news for you for today. I had no idea I was going to write about Calgary, but that's the beauty of it. These posts are often like improvisations on the guitar. Where she stops, nobody knows.. Thanks as ever for stopping in and reading. Happy Thursday to you! For now, ich bin outa here. More later.

PS today's pic goes back to January of 1985. Dallas TX. The first time I experienced 50-degree weather in January. The lady in the picture was a fill-in for the week we were there. Our female vocalist and drummer had both quit the band a month prior, so we got James Perkins from right there in Big D. His predecessor had a lot more drums. PPS Today's tune is from my new album Big Hair, Big Dreams. It's called Beez Neez because of the guitar tone, which sounds to me like a buzzing bee..
