un-manic Monday

Good morning! 8:51 and 67 degrees are our current stats. Looks like a great day from here. Hard to get motivated on those hotter days, even with all the air going. I posted yesterday, but didn't share it on Facebook. Part of it was kvetching about all the craziness going on all across the country, and I figured there's plenty of that already.. You can still read the post from here.

Music news. Planning another rehearsal with the new trio- same guys who worked with me at Boone's. We wanted to wait until the dog days are over. Hoping to turn this into a regular thing, as far as getting together to play. From there, we'll see about playing someplace.

Someplace quiet. Motorheads is probably one we'll avoid. There is a place in Petersburg looking for entertainment, which might be a possibility down the road. Baby steps...

I did have a good run yesterday, as far as playing here in the Lab.  Recorded a couple things, and almost every one of them was a winner. I judge what I do not by playing all the right notes, but by how it feels. Of course, you don't want too many clinkers, but it's more important that the rhythm is happening. If the time is good, then it will feel good to listen to.

So I've got a couple things I'm looking forward to sharing with you guys. Stay tuned!

The other news item I've got is a jam session next month. July 27th, in Bloomington, a bunch of us are getting together to play some stuff. Tom Becker is hosting it. He no longer plays gigs, but is still an active musician with regular practice and these occasional sessions. He calls it playing in.

I too favor playing in these days, and am much more amenable toward private sessions. But I'll still get out there and play a gig every now and then. So I guess I'm a Beckerite as far as my basic philosophy--but I'm not a strict one.

Okay. That's all I can think of for the moment. Thanks as ever for stopping in and reading. Happy Monday to you, if that's possible. For now, ich bin outa this place. More later.  PS I think this is a picture I've never used. Year unknown, we're at the Hoogland Center, in the Art Gallery. John Crisp, Lou Humphrey, me and Mark Russillo. Today's tune is a bossa rendition of Giant Steps. It's from my album Jazz Guitar.
