Greetings, whoever-reads-this! It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Digging the mild Winter we're experiencing, at least so far. Half-waiting for that other shoe to drop, so to speak- a sucker punch from Mother Nature--but we're getting through February relatively unscathed..
It's been awhile since I've written one of these. It used to be a daily event. Usually a morning event, with the coffee. I've added Wordle to my morning rituals, so the blogs just got lost in the shuffle.
We have a small group on Facebook, all of whom check in at some point in the morning with their Wordle scores. It's wonderfully non-competitive. We all have our good days and our not-so-good days..
I also do the games on Lumosity. Those are more competitive but I'm competing against myself. Been doing this since 2015, so I'm competing with the me of 8 years ago, who usually kicks current me's ass…
Music stuff. March 31st is still the next time I'm playing someplace. Boone's Saloon, from 5:30 to 7:30. Ben Taylor on bass; Jaro Howse on drums. Jazz standards and maybe a few originals. I'll have CDs on hand to sell for a paltry $5 apiece, as usual, and we'll probably have somebody or other sitting in sometime in the second set. It's not a jam session, but I do open things up if we have anybody in the house.. Hope to see you there!
Otherwise, just continuing to practice here in the Music Lab. Still trying to get better. Sometimes I just use a click track, but more often I'll use playalong recordings. I look at it as if I'm going on Test Missions.
Then I go back and listen. See what I did right--if anything--and what still needs work. Being my own worst critic, this can be a harrowing experience. But there are survivors. And those are the ones I share with you guys.
I try to post something to my YouTube channel pretty much every day. 240 subscribers at the moment, which still feels like a lot to me. .Just like in Lumosity, I'm competing against myself. Only this time I'm winning. Paltry successes, but I'll still take ém.
