un-manic Monday

Good morning! It's 9:35 on this oh-god-it's Monday. Watching the leaves start to fall from my window here in the Music Lab. I have a beautiful Red Maple tree in my front yard that's just reaching its peak as far as its resplendence. So it will follow suit and start to shed its leaves and take on that 'barren' look. . The only thing wrong with the Fall season is that it leads into Winter.

Music news. There is one new post on YouTube, as of yesterday. A brisk version of Cole Porter's I Love You. I didn't play the melody as such but rather hinted around about it. Thinking of a version of My Funny Valentine done by Bill Evans and Jim Hall on the album Undercurrent which does the same thing. Recommended listening, by the way. Jim Hall's comping on Valentine is outstanding.

And they made another duo album called Intermodulation. So that's two recommended albums for you. Undercurrent is still my favorite of the two. Bill Evans and Jim Hall. It doesn't get much better than this....

As for me, I've kinda been in slug mode since last Friday. Thursday and Friday were busy days, getting my new CD in order. It's called Near-Miracle on 33rd Street, and is a collection of jazz originals. I'll have CDs on about the 23rd, and it will be up digitally in a couple weeks.

A game plan is emerging as far as my output. I did a jazz CD at the end of 2019(Jazz Guitar Vol 4- operators are standing by!), and I've just done another here at the end of 2020. And I'm just getting started on a new one, which will be in some kind of finished state sometime next year. So, a new jazz album every year. That's my new goal.

In the meantime, as things arise, I'll continue to post download-only recordings. Usually my quirkier stuff- which also has an audience albeit much smaller. 2020 seems to have brought about much nuttiness as far as my compositions. A lot of crazy stuff to get out of your system. "Converting' craziness into music is a nice way to get it out.

I still haven't played out anywhere since all this hit. March 13th at Robbie's was the last one, almost 7 months to the day. But it'll happen eventually. I just had the rug pulled out from under me as far as the places I used to play: Robbie's and the various nursing homes. All either closed or quarantined. So for right now at least, I'm continuing to make music from home- and sharing it with you guys!

Thanks as ever for stopping in and reading. Happy Monday to you, if that's possible! For now, ich bin outa here. Time for that second cup of coffee. More later.
