Good morning! About 9:30 this side of noon, another beautiful day out there. Indian Summer is my favorite "pocket season". It's the last patch of nice before the weather starts to suck. Got the thermal dermis packed away for when that happens. I don't know if it's preparedness so much as just being a Cold Weather Wuss..
Music news. Well I mentioned my new soon-to-be-here CD Near-Miracle on 33rd Street. The nice tech from CD Baby who helped me get back into my account got a little chuckle out of that title. I was afraid you'd have to be my age--which is pretty old!--to get that reference. I title my songs and sometimes albums for the same reason Frank Zappa titled his:(in Frank's words) to entertain and amuse folks. So mission accomplished there. Hopefully people will take to the music as well--since that is, after all, the most important part...
And I've started work on the next one. More jazz originals, including one I resurrected from years back. Almost for Sandi. Met her at a Lime Street gig with Bob Katt and the Missing Lynx. Some nice phone conversations, and met her again at Lime Street, this time subbing with The Beatnix(from Decatur: Perry Rask, Andy Burtschi, Darin Holthaus). This second meeting didn't go as well as the first. I mentioned this to my Boss on Monday, and he said "well you got the interview but not the job".
I didn't feel dejected in the least. At least I got an interview. I was "considered for the position"(resisting the temptation to throw in a double-entendre here).. And if I get enough interviews I'll eventually land a job. I know this to be true, in both these areas of life- even though sometimes it seems to take an awful lot of interviews. My interview for the job I had for 22 years, and retired from, was my tenth. I guess ten is my magic number.....
Anyway! I don't know how I got off on that tangent, but now you know more than you probably wanted to know about Almost for Sandi---which will probably have a different title anyway when I'm done with it. Making more music here in the Music Lab. Devising some weird little grooves and playing guitar over them. I'm also putting together a whole new jazz CD for next year. I like the process of planning, and I also like getting in there and being totally spontaneous- which is where these weird little pieces of mine come from. So, more in the works, as always.
This is probably more than enough tongue-wagging from me for now. Thanks as ever for stopping in and wading through all this. Happy Wednesday to you! For now, ich bin outa here. More later.
PS Today's pic is of Bob Katt and the Missing Lynx. Chas Blythe on bass, Brad on drums(can't remember last name), Kevin Cox on saxophones and all manner of noisemakers, me on guitar. This was at One East Market in Taylorville, where we played regularly. Always a nice time, plus the added treat of hitting Bill's Toasty Shop on the way back to Springfield.
