Friday

Good morning! It's about a quarter of eleven, a day that seems to be trying to make up its mind whether or not to rain. Not looking good..

There was a post on Facebook the other day by a fellow musician, citing his 46 years of experience as a player and discussing how others- and presumably with less experience- would try to tell him how things were. In his post, he said he just sits back and lets them talk.

I agree and disagree with this. On the agree side, it's sometimes the best tactic to just let the other person run their mouth. They eventually hear the sound of their own voice and realize their own folly. The problem solves itself.

But I also think it's not such a good idea to just completely disregard the counsel of another solely based on how many years they've been at it. Some of the best critiques I've gotten have been from people who weren't musicians at all. They just gave me an honest account of how it sounded to them. And regardless of whether I follow that advice, it's always worth a listen.

I've been a guitar player for 55 years. Thinking of some of the people I've been listening to these days, and the fact that my half-century of experience is  longer than they've been alive! But they show me new things, give me something to work toward. Guitarists young enough to be my kids- or Grandkids..

That's really all I had for you for today, at least so far. Today looks like it's gonna be another good day for practicing, and with it hopefully a few taped things that will be worth sharing. So, thanks as ever for stopping in and reading. I do appreciate it! Happy Friday to you. I'm outa this place. More later. PS Today's tune is called Rock Me Until Around Dinnertime. Some geriatric rock music I had laying around. Hope you like it,.
