Jazz Guitar Vol 5

This seems to be Album Release Month for me. Interluudes was the first. It's one of my mutts: a curious mixture of funk and fusion and smooth jazz and maybe some other stuff. It released just four days ago.

And I've got another one, which is due to release this coming Friday. It's called Jazz Guitar Vol 5. My titles are sometimes quite boring and functional. Just depends on what the situation calls for. This particular collection fits best in a volume format.

The Jazz guitar series is unique to my collection of recordings in that I also play bass on the selections(as opposed to left-hand synth bass), and even take a solo on most of them. Likewise keyboards. My keyboard chops have been better over the years, but still are enough to squeak by.

Actually, my first band experiences were on bass. I started guitar about the same time, but someone needed a bass player, so I just gravitated that way- even though I still played guitar at home. I loved the instrument but I had too many people telling me how to play, so I eventually just went to guitar exclusively. Too much butting of heads over The Role of the Instrument in a Band..

But I still love being my own bass player, on these occasions. Working with myself, I know nobody's going to give me any shit…

So, six selections on this one, all originals. Three of them have been recorded with other musicians, on a few of my CDs. Of the jazz guitar albums, #s 1 and 5 are solo efforts, where 2, 3 and 4 have other folks. The middle three recordings have out-takes from a few of my CDs.

That's my news for you for now. Thanks as ever for stopping in here and reading. I'm outa here. More later.

PS The enclosed tune, AB Positive, is on this new album. It was written for bassist Andy Burtschi, and recorded on my CD Bird's-Eye View.
