Tewsday

Good morning! Just shy of nine o'clock here on Election Day. I've already voted, so the challenge today is in staying away from the news. There is that feeling of great anticipation though, like a little kid on Christmas Day. Anyway, it's a beautiful day out there that just happens to be the day we elect our new President.

Music news. My new CD Near-Miracle on 33rd Street is now available through all the digital companies, like Spotify, Deezer, iTunes. They all showed up on the CD's website this morning, which you can view here. I'm going to post it to Facebook as well. Might be a few folks out there who need a break from the news, so this just might hit the spot. It's all jazz and all original(though some things are based on standard tunes)and all done by me.

In other music news, I'm pooped! To quote Firesign Theatre, "the little red needle is pointing to E, and while that's always stood for excellent in my book, I think it means we're out of gas!" Reached a point of saturation yesterday where I just couldn't do any more. In exercise, I'm always pushing myself to get in those extra reps, pushing myself beyond the pain and discomfort. In music, it's quite the opposite. You let it happen rather than making it happen. At least the creative end of things. The technical exercises- scales, arpeggios and the like-are more akin to calisthenics, and those you push a bit if needed.

So I've been working on solo guitar stuff. Specifically, Blue Moon. Finding some different harmonies in there. I've got a whole crop of solo guitar things, mostly standards, that I dig out and play on occasion. I've got one solo guitar album, which I did back in 2005-06. Solo Jazz Guitar. (My titles are either weird and off-the-wall, or very functional). It's been my biggest seller, soaring above the other CDs. Grateful of course, but still wishing people would listen to something else.

Coming to a point of 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" with this though. Why not just give the people what they want, and do another solo album? So I'm thinking maybe this should be the next project. Been sitting on these tunes for years as it is.

And that's all I've got for you for the moment. Thanks as ever for stopping in and reading. Happy Tuesday to you! I'm outa here. More later.

PS Today's pic was taken at Lime Street Cafe, year unknown. Kevin Hart on piano, yours truly on guitar, Kevin Ellis on bass, (not pictured)Don Cochran on drums.

PPS A rare political remark from me. Interesting that in 2016 a lot of folks voted for Trump by default because they couldn't stand Hillary. And in 2020, 56% of those voting for Biden are doing so in default because they can't stand Trump.
