Good afternoon! 1:51, 44 degrees here in the Small City. A cool, cloudy day. Lots of tossing and turning last night. Couldn't quite turn off the Bubble Machine but don't feel too much the worse for wear.
Bubble machine is a reference to the old Lawrence Welk show, which actually featured one of those contraptions. I remember my Dad laughing like hell at one of the acts because it was such a perfect moment of cheeziness. A sublime corniness. This is the same guy who split sides the first time he saw Elvis Presley on TV, because he thought it was a comedy act.
Music news. Out of the three new recordings I've done this year, one of them has finally passed muster. A Walk on the Mild Side has been accepted for distribution. Quite an ordeal getting it through, with more revisions than I care to count. But t least we're there!
A Walk on the Mild Side is something I put together back in 2007, but never gave it that push to go digital. It's a collection of different trios: guitar, bass & drums; 2 guitars and bass; and guitar, keyboard and drums. Some are live and some are studio performances.
The other two recordings are The Sam Crain Quartet and Twelve Twisted Tales of 2020. I'd imagine this latter one will go through without a hitch, but I've had one helluva time getting the quartet recording through Customs. Checking my email has been a white-knuckle experience, anticipating yet another rejection letter with more revisions to make. Still not out of the woods yet, but at least we've made a breakthrough here...
Twelve Twisted Tales of 2020 is a baker's dozen of colorful electronic pieces , inspired by the crazy events of the previous year. 22 minutes total, which is a good length for stuff like this. The weirder the shorter is my basic approach here, having made a grievous mistake a time or two putting wayy too much material in. Some of the titles, like Orange Mussolini and Tyranny in Toyland, are pretty self-evident, but most of them are more abstract. Weird stuff, perhaps. But entertaining. At least I hope so.
The quartet recording is two gigs back in 2004. Looking forward to sharing it. I'm pretty sure I've crossed all the t's and dotted all the i's to their satisfaction. If there's anything to fix, I think we're down to a single item- or issue. Still, coming soon!
