Friday

Good morning! Just shy of ten on this--wait a minute, I've already done this! A Groundhog Day sort of deja vu here, living the same day over again. Well at least it's a nice sunny day that's being re-lived...

Music news. A memory. I couldn't have been older than 18 or 19. There was a theater group from Chicago that did a week-long presentation of Irma La Douce. I was one of the local musicians hired for the event. It was a lot of fun. The cast were entertaining folks and got along well with us locals. We even partied together, something the band and cast don't always do.

There was one such party I attended, hosted by a self-described writer of science-fiction. Don't know if he was published or not, but he was pretty entertaining. Remembering an exchange between him and another individual at the party:

"Aldous Huxley's last words were, 'life is the lie we must accept'. And then he drifted off."

"Anybody who doesn't love life doesn't deserve to live it!"

"Are you any relation to Sammy Davis Jr?"

I dunno. Made me laugh at the time. Somehow had that floating around in my head this morning. He made a few drug references to the band as well, assuming that all  musicians are  dope fiends. Also got a chuckle out of me. For that matter, he's probably not too far off...

Actually, speaking of dope fiends, Aldous Huxley was one of the early experimenters with LSD. The Doors got their name from his book The Doors of Perception.

Well this is probably more than enough to read for today. Thanks as ever for stopping in and wading through it. Happy Friday to you! For now, je suis outa here. More later.

PS today's pic is just a view of my 'office' here in the music room. Today's tune is something a little different. It's an arrangement of Tea for Two. I did the keyboards, bass, percussion and guitar and have two guest soloists: David Hoffman and John Crain. It's the only thing I have with my Dad playing on it. We did it back in 1991. Hope you like it.
