Good morning! It's about a quarter after ten on this just-what-the-Doctor-ordered Friday. A nice sunny day after a string of dark and cloudies is that much nicer by contrast. Those Edgar Allan Poe days bring out the curmudgeon in me.
There is a Geography series I've been following for the past couple of years. It's on YouTube, of all places, and is called Geography Now. Lots of fun. Spain was the last country covered.
Spain is located on the Iberian Peninsula, of which it takes up about 82%, with its little buddy Portugal taking up the rest. 48 million people. The capital is Madrid, located smackdab in the middle of the country. It's the second-biggest country in Europe, behind France. It's the second most mountainous, behind Switzerland, with five different mountain ranges. Bear with me, I'm getting to my point here..
There are two archipelagos: The Balearic Islands to the south, and the Canary Islands off the coast of Morocco. There are 4 Balearic islands and 7 Canary islands. I don't know all their names yet, or I'd bore you even further.. One of the Canary Islands, Gomero, has a language made up entirely of whistling. It's called Silbo Gomero.
A language made up of whistling begs the following questions. Are there stand-up comics? Dramatic readings? Is there a music scene, and if so, do whistlers figure in there? And finally, when there are official government statements, are they also presented in Silbo Gomero? Like our American Sign Language..
Okay, I didn't have any music news for today. Hopefully this was some entertaining patter. I get physical exercise about twice a week but try to exercise my noodle every day. Speaking of which, it's time for Lumosity. A workout program of five different exercises designed to work different parts of the brain. Been doing it since 2015. I've lost a little bit of quickness, but am still hanging in there.
