Friday

Good morning! It's just after ten, almost a carbon copy of yesterday.

There was a weird story I read as a High Schooler, called The Strange Life of Ivan Osokin. It was about a man who is given the opportunity to live his life over again, thanks to an Alchemist. And despite the Alchemist' s warnings, elects to have full knowledge. He ends up making all the same mistakes he made in his life. .

I don't remember how it ended, but most likely not in a happy place. Probably a Rod Serling ending, with the protagonist left to rue his bad decisions..

Fast forward several decades to the movie Groundhog Day. The Bill Murray character is mired in the same day, much like our boy Osokin, but unlike him, manages to slowly work his way out. I found out much later that Harold Ramis had himself read The Strange Life of Ivan Osokin and that it had inspired him to write Groundhog Day.

Ramis was Bill Murray's sidekick in all kindsa movies. His usually more intelligent sidekick.

I didn't think anyone else had ever read that book. P.D. Ouspensky was the author. Russian mystic. That's all I remember. 1972 was awhile ago...

Music news. Well first off I have a treat. It's a transcription of a solo by 'Adam Rogers. This is somebody I've been listening to lately. You can listen and watch the notes go by in the transcription. He's doing some things I would like to be doing in my own playing. A great sense of flow.

It's one thing to be able to play in time, to align oneself to the rhythm, but quite another to have that sense of flow. Rogers sometimes leaves huge spaces, which in itself creates a bigger space, and then kills you with a flurry of notes. There's another guitarist I listen to who does this. Very effective..

I can play in good time as far as that goes , but I don't always have the flow. That, I think, comes with having a good internal sense of time. Always something to work towards.  Even if you've been doing this forever..

Okay. We've reached that point once again. I've filled up the page, hopefully with interesting stuff. I usually have no idea what I'm going to write until I get started. And that was certainly the case today. Thanks as ever for stopping in and reading. I do appreciate it! For now, jeg er outa here. More later.
