Good morning! Straight-up ten o'clock on this traditional bad luck day. So far so good. I'm not a superstitious person. I don't believe in luck as such. But I do believe in intuition. Most of the time I trust my hunches , and most of the time they don't disappoint.
Musical news. Currently working on some potential recordings here in the Lab. Combining this and that, seeing what goes/doesn't go with what. It's a lot more fun than it sounds. But I try to get a nice flow with my recordings, where every song leads into the next one. That sometimes takes some doing.
Sometimes the hardest damn thing in the world is making it sound easy. Just like on the guitar. Same illusion here..
Otherwise, I'm starting to prepare for a couple gigs coming up. One is a solo affair, August 31st, noon to one, downtown on the south side of the Square. The other is a trio date at Anchors Away, September 3rd, 8 to 10. I've been practicing regularly, so my chops are in pretty good shape.
Nothing on the books after that. Might just take another break from the action. Recharge these aging batteries. I miss my old pre-Pandemic niche, which was basically Robbie's and the Nursing/Assisted Living places. The latter was especially nice, one-hour gigs in the middle of the afternoon.
Long since retired from the world of work, and semi-retired from the world of gigging. Still nice to see the old crew, as was the case with the job I had back on July 31st, playing on the Square with a group of fellow oldsters.
I think I need to rant a minute. Bear with me. I've noticed, over the years, that some folks get saltier with age. In a couple cases, it made them harder to be around.
I try to remember that much of this is because they just plain don't feel good-- no sleep, everything hurts-- and thus not to take it personally. But as I get older(and crabbier)myself, I'm much less apt to sit there and listen to it. So I quietly exeunt, if I can.
Do no harm, but take no shit. Ordinarily, I don't go in for memes. But that one hits home.
Okay! Sorry for the rant, but I needed to vent..
Once again, we're at that point where I probably should've closed out long ago. Thanks as ever for stopping in and reading. I do appreciate it. Happy Friday the 13th to you! For now, I'm outa here. More later.
PS today's pic was taken at St John's Hospital years and years ago. Dennis Darling on the piano, me on guitar.
