Good morning! 8:47 and 41 degrees on this slightly eerie Friday. I've been up since 7:51, not even a full hour. I like to write something at this time because my mind tends to free-associate more. It's still waking up along with the rest of me. So maybe some interesting tangents today. We'll see.
Music news. Monday I do some guitar duo stuff. I've been listening to Jose here and there on FB, and he's got it goin' on. Nice lines, beautiful chording.
I've done duos with a number of guitarists. Frank Huston and I even did a couple gigs, just us guys and our guitars. Remembering one we did at The Loft. Great room but no elevator. Someone came up to us on a break, and asked, Okay, who's better?"
I said, "Get outa here!" He persisted. "No, really, who's better?" We pointed to each other and both said, "He is!" A wonderful spontaneous moment.
Once you have the basics on guitar(or any instrument for that matter), the question of who's better becomes increasingly meaningless. Any differences from there are, and can only be, qualitative.
I've been playing the guitar since I was 12. That's 55 years. And I'm still working to get better. I think one of the biggest lessons is learning where not to play, where to leave space. This is something I feel like I'm just starting to get, after a half-century of work.
So I guess this is what I've got for you for today. Sorry there weren't any crazy digressions. Maybe next time. Thanks as ever for stopping in and reading. Happy Friday to you! Exit-stage right. More later. PS today's pic is an old promo one from 2008 or so. Ed Clark took the picture. He's still my Official Photographer. I still look about the same(dammit!), but no longer wear glasses. Cataract surgery back in 2011..
