Merry Christmas, whoever-reads-this! It's currently 10:12 in the pm on Christmas Eve. All across the country, kids will be waking up their parents at Ass O'Clock in the morning to open the presents under the Christmas Tree. Two hours later, the living room is a mass of wrapping paper, and Mom and Dad are good and frazzled..
I don't have kids of my own, but was married to a woman who had a 4-year-old and a 6-year-old when we got hitched. So I'm familiar with the scenario I just described For the kids, it was a time of magic, but that would sometimes work against them. My wife had the Easter Bunny and several other such Astral Entities on speed-dial, whom she would threaten to call if the kids acted up.
Hey, it worked! So magic was also a disciplinary measure. Nice while it lasted..
Those kids are now 38 and 40 years old, respectively. And with young kids of their own, who will no doubt be getting them up at an ungodly hour tomorrow morning. We're still Facebook friends, so I see their posts, and follow their trials and tribulations- at least what they share.
I don't have any kind of special message for anybody for Christmas. Some musicians get philosophical in their posts, but I'm a musician, period. Well, and columnist--or blogger, if you will. My philosophy of life? Sometimes it's good; sometimes it's not so good.
I'm kidding, of course. But I usually eschew that stuff in here, and try more to entertain than to edify. I do feel that life is a continuing process, and that it goes on past what we think of as our customary point of departure. Thus there is a purpose to what we do. Beyond that, your guess is as good as mine...
And that's as philosophical as I'm gonna get. At least in here. This kind of stuff is what us old people sometimes argue about...
Anyway. Thanks for reading my posts, and listening to my music. I appreciate it a great deal! Merry Christmas. And to quote Hurricane Ruth, much love.
PS Today's pic goes back to the 90s. Evans Brittin at the keys, and his band Muzik Maker. Playing somewhere in Jacksonville. RIP Evans, and his son Charlie.
