Good morning! 10:32 and 63 degrees at the moment. A rare night with nine hours of sleep. Seven is my norm. Anything over that, I'm progressively more relaxed; and anything under it, I'm more wired. So I'm down for whatever today with my 9+ hours of shuteye.
I also got my voice back today. I've been without it for a couple days, from a nasty cold. A bit hoarse, but still back in action. Phone calls were next to impossible. Boy, I sure sound like an old guy here!
The man, the music. Doing a lot of listening these days, to a couple of players I've just discovered on YouTube. Mike Manero is probably my favorite of the new players coming up. There are a number of videos with him playing with various groups, and killing it! Great lines that seem to be somewhere just above the chord changes. Adam Rogers is another guitarist who does this.
I hear what they're doing- rather, the effect of what they're doing- but just don't know where to find it on the instrument. So that's my conundrum for the moment. Seek and ye shall hopefully find..
Strangely enough, guitarists around here have come to me for help in expanding their ideas. We never seem to get around to it though. I should add that I'm flattered as hell to be asked something like this. And i think those sessions would be a lot of fun if we were to ever follow through.
So that's my story for now. My voice is still kinda shot, but at least it's back. Probably more music-making today, and part of that involves working with playalong recordings- and anything that survives gets shared. So thanks as ever for stopping in and reading. Happy Friday to you! For now, ich bin outa here. More later.
PS today's pic was taken at Lime Street in maybe 2014 or so. Sitting in with Juke House, one of two gigs I played with them. Mike Lang is on bass, and Fats Waller is in the background. There's also a John Lennon, and a Crosby, Stills and Nash posted- with a very stoned Steven Stills..
