Friday

Good morning! 8:49 and 40 degrees are our current stats. Another bright sunny day.

Music news. Folks , I've written an INSANE amount of music. That's neither good nor bad, it just is. Going in last night to finish up a project I've had going for awhile, only to uncover another one I never got around to finishing. Plus some other stuff that might just go somewhere.. A bottomless pit of backlog..

I'm still set to do a solo album this coming year. Doing it at a friend's studio. It's something we've talked about for years, and is also something that gets me out of the house. As far as a start date, that depends on how nasty a Winter we get. But this is the plan for 2023.

The project I uncovered is all straight-ahead jazz stuff. My old buddy David Hoffman is on two of the selections and my Dad is on one as well. Dave and I did a lot of collaborating over the years. I'm on his album Sat Chit Ananda- a Thought Away, and he's on my album Jammin' with Sam

At this stage of the game, Dad's been gone since '92, and Dave is pretty much retired. Neuropathy in his hands makes it impossible to play piano, and much more difficult to play trumpet. That occurred to me last night, that these were the last we're going to hear from these two. So the album takes on more meaning. Plus I haven't done anything straight-ahead in awhile.

As for me, I'm in that gray area of semi-retirement. Still able-bodied, but much  more sensitive to noise and crowds. That's the stuff I'm retired from. Yet I still want to communicate, to share what I do. So I post a lot on my YouTube page, and make albums. And occasionally leave the house to make an appearance someplace or other..

Well that's all the news I can come up with for the moment. Thanks as ever for stopping in and reading. Happy Friday to you! For now, I've got a trifecta to enjoy: Wordle, Lumosity, and a second cup of coffee. Later for now.

PS today's pic goes back to the 80s. Sebastian's on 5th St. Tim Green on piano, Jeff Magby on drums, me on guitar. An Ibanez Artstar was my guitar at the time.
