Greetings, whoever-reads-this! It's actually Thursday night, about 10, for what that's worth.
Music news. I just got a very nice note on my YouTube page from someone in the Philippines. They're just getting started learning to play jazz on the guitar, and told me they were inspired by my playing. That, to me, is what it's all about. I'm honored.
The other news item I have is this new guitar. It's an Epiphone ES-335. I just ordered it from Musician's Friend, and should be getting it sometime on Monday. This body style agrees with me. Archtops are too big, and solidbodies are too small. Plus, I've always loved Sunburst, and wanted to have one of my favorite body styles along with my favorite coloring.
My guitar collection is tame compared to that of some players I know. The new guitar will make 10. But I've already got two other Epiphone guitars: a Casino in candy apple red and a sunburst Casino Coupe. I call the Coupe my mighty mite guitar, as it's a smaller body but has a pair of P90 pickups that pack a surprising punch. Still, the smaller body didn't fulfill my desire for Sunburst. So we have another addition to the family, due to arrive this Monday.
So I'll probably have it on my gig this next Friday. Looking forward to seeing whoever comes down to Booné's, as well as playing music with other humans. I can make my own fun here in the Music Lab, but only up to a point.
And I even have another gig a week after that, this one a private party. And the hours are perfect: Saturday afternoon, from 2 to about 4. Before COVID, I had a nice little niche going, playing various Nursing/Assisted Living gigs. Always mid-afternoon, and never more than an hour or two. And always with a very good saxophonist and bass player.
Staying in the game gets harder to do, getting older(and crabbier)and all But as long as there are mid-afternoon and Happy Hour gigs to be had, I'm still in there. Especially with this new axe.
