Greetings, whoever-reads-this! And, like the sign says, happy Juneteenth. June 19, 1865 was the date the Emancipation Proclamation was signed into law. It took the rest of the year to get everybody freed, Delaware and Kentucky being the last states, but it was set in motion on the 19th of June.
And it was made into a Federal Holiday during the Biden Administration. The current Administration seems to think it's a waste of time. Pardon my French here, but fuck them. Lets continue to celebrate Juneteenth Day- as well as Martin Luther King Day and Black History Month- for many years to come.
For most of my life, I've been blissfully apolitical. One thing the Orange Presence has done for me is to get me to start paying attention. I remember commenting as a younger guy that Politics held no interest because it didn't concern me personally.
Far from it now. As a card-carrying Senior Citizen on Medicare and Social Security- as a taxpayer period- it hits me right where I live. Especially with the Mad Hatter(started to type mad hater)who's in office at the moment. The Bromance with Elon was especially disquieting, what with the genocidal layoffs and firings in the Federal Government.
I don't consider myself knowledgeable about Politics(though I am paying more attention), but I might know something about people, and I knew those two massive egos couldn't work under the same roof.
So the story continues, with 47 getting more incoherent by the day. I probably need to take a break from the news. It's a mixture of horror and fascination. Not healthy..
Music News. Still tending my YouTube page, now up to 637 folks. I got a very nice note the other day from someone in Canada. “Someone from rural Canada, wishing you well'”. Gotta say, that warmed my heart. I sent back good wishes from this American guy. Glad they don't all hate us.
I was on the road from December of 1984 to March of 1986. I spent July of 1985 in Canada. Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta. For the Calgary Stampede and Klondike Days respectively. Calgary was used in the movie Superman III, for Metropolis- for what that's worth. We had a very nice time visiting our neighbor to the north. It was my first experience having Pineapple on Pizza.
That's another viewpoint of mine, perhaps controversial. I actually like Pineapple on Pizza- depending of course to a large extent the pizza itself.
In other music news, I'm still playing most every day and making music videos. The closest I've gotten to playing out is a few jam sessions at a friend's house over the last couple weeks. But I'm still at it.
In roughly two months, I'll be 71 years old. Feeling lucky to still be ambulatory. I do cardio at the Fit Club every week, plus some sort of Isometric/ Weight Training routine here at home. Plus I have a backyard I'm working on taming- it's a jungle back there!
