Thursday

Greetings, whoever-reads-this! Feels a little funny writing this in the early evening. It's normally a morning activity, along with that first cup of coffee or two. But it would feel weirder to not have a post at all. Sometimes in life you have to pick the desired amount, or level, of weirdness...

Music news. This was a 'travel day'. A whopping 25 miles south to Pawnee, which is further than I've gone in awhile. Spent a couple hours at a friend's studio getting a new recording in order. I have yet to listen to the result since getting home, but it'll get done. A nice couple hours getting somewhat caught up on life and the various challenges therein: the upcoming Election, the Pandemic, homeowner woes- that kinda stuff.

Anyway, music news. I've got a new CD. It's all straight-ahead jazz and all originals- though I did put a standard at the end, as a bonus track. It's called Near-Miracle on 33rd Street. Many moons ago--2011-- I wrote a tune with that name, and wanted to use it as the title of a CD I had just finished. The recording engineer asked me, "Do you want to actually sell these?" So it was called Rose of Loami, after a different tune.

This time I have no one to talk me out of my bad decisions. Going with my original instinct as far as titles.  I even have a picture of 33rd street in Manhattan, which will serve as the cover. Still much work to do with all the packaging, but the most essential part--the music--is done.

So that's my music news for you. Hanging in there in what continues to be one hell of a year. It helps to be able to share my music and news like this, direct from here in the Music Lab. Thanks as ever for stopping in and reading. Happy what's-left-of-Thursday to you! For now, I'm outa here. More later.

PS Today's pic strays from 'company policy' but I couldn't resist. During last night's Vice Presidential Debate, I thought there was a fly on the screen, and went to flick it off. A brief WTF moment realizing that Mike Pence had a fly stuck in his hair, and then I went back to watching the program. Didn't think about it again, and logged on to FB this morning to find it all over my newsfeed. Nothing like a much-needed laugh.

PPS The tune of the day is called Star Tush. Musically it's based on the standard Star Eyes. The title is from the old TV series Mork and Mindy, and is one of the terms of endearment Mork had for his boss Orson.
